FAITH IN JESUS.
BY MRS. L. A. BALDWIN.
There is no
little interest felt nor a few questions asked in reference to the healing
power being applied only to those who have professedly accepted Christ as their
Saviour for the soul, or whether all may alike come to Him for deliverance from
bodily disease. When I was first le to know the power and love of our
Lord to overcome the enemy’s power and hatred, I was among a class that had no
(as is generally understood) control of their own mental faculties, not capable
of using even the simple one of faith in God. Yet the problem to be solved that
sent me among them was demonstrated to my mind in so lucid a manner that I have
never once doubted in the omnipotent love of Jehovah, through this divine attribute,
to re-establish reason on her throne or to release maniacs from this thralldom
of the great Anti-Christ.
Before Rev. Geo.
Barnes came out in open declaration that God called him to anoint any and all
who came to receive Jesus as their Healer, stopping to ask no question as to
their spiritual state, the blessed Spirit also plainly indicated to me, that if
their faith could take hold of Christ as their one and only Physician, that He
would and did heal them. In every case, as far as we could judge, this very
faith so linked their souls to Him that they, too, were saved. This is a
glorious truth, too great and grand to be held back, and we make the statement
fully convinced in our own mind, that one one who takes the Christ as healer of
body, but finds Him also the healer of the soul. There is also an almost
universal fact that is refreshing to mention, that those who are healed, are so
“at one” with Jesus, that the blessed fruits of His atonement are at once
evinced, and clearly proven afterward in their life and conversation. We see
all this through the Master’s own ministry; He healed without requiring
anything but faith in Himself. A man in the prime of life came to us to find
healing of a cancer on the face. Almost our first question was, “Are you a
Christian?” He frankly admitted he never had been one, yet in less than an hour
that man went away with the new birth so evidently wrought in his soul that his
very face showed it, and his voice proclaimed it. A young lady who came to be
cured, told us she had sought Jesus as a Saviour many a time and deeply in
earnest, yet was still out of the fold. In ten minutes she found both the Shepherd
and the fold. Another came to consult with us about his afflicted wife who was
too ill to come the distance, but he was so much under the influence of liquor,
we said boldly, “Brother, you need the healing most.” The words shot
like a red hot coal into his heart, and after his wife was healed, we learned
we was made whole in soul. A woman who was lifted instantly from a bed of great
suffering and to all appearances of one speedy dissolution, who had been all of
her life a scold and disturber of the neighborhood, was from that moment made a
wonderful blessing and helper!
The question that
now comes up is where are these miracles of healing to end? Why, the whole
atmosphere is filled with praying breath, while in electric wires are
surcharged (never overcharged or too heavily laden) with the loving petitions
for grace and help, which so quickly bring back a loving response, that we
wonder if the angels are not more busy now than ever before, bearing glad
tidings of great joy! All praise to the Redeemer who purchased gifts, never to
be numbered, for the sons of God. Let us to see it that our lack of faith does
not limit them.
