TWO MITES
The poor widow who cast
her humble offering into the treasury, gave “all the living that she had,” and
the “two mites” represent the offering required to each one of us, viz.: our
soul and body, to be given to the Lord in a fully and eternal consecration.
They are only “mites,” but if we, like this poor widow, cast in of our “penury,”
we shall be received by Him who will count us precious in the light of His
redeeming love. We are so apt to offer our “abundance,” our self-righteousness
and pride of heart, but we must realize our utter “penury,” and be “poor in spirit” before we can bring fit
offerings for our Lord.
